SUCOFA-GPS Mapping Program

To satisfy the tenets of standards of cocoa certification bodies, it is required that all SUCOFA farmers have knowledge of their exact farm sizes.  Since 2011, SUCOFA has vigorously pursued Geographical Positioning Solution (GPS) with state of the art technology such as latest versions of Grmin GPS,  ArcView and GPS utility solutions.

SUCOFA has mapped about 350 matured cocoa farms in all the 7 cocoa growing regions in  Cameroon.  As of 2013, about 273 authenticated farm plans have been bought by SUCOFA Member farmers.

The objectives of the GPS mapping and farm plans development are  as follows:

  • It helps to calculate the appropriate quantity of the SUCOFA Inputs Package that is required by individual farmers and the group at large.

  • It provides credible information about the members farm sizes which is fed into the SUCOFA  database.

  • Tthe farm plans serve as a guarantee document which can be used to show the site and situation of members farm lands to protect farms any land litigation.

  • The farm plans also serve as evidence of land titles which could be used as collateral for soft loans from SUCOFA Micro-Finace Services and other financial institutions

  • It provides members the opportunity to demonstrate that they are professional farmers

  • It is affordable for all farmers to secure a farm plans.
